“Terrain Vague” describes the post-industrial sites, abandoned lots and undefined urban gaps that fall outside conventional planning categories. OBSERVISTA builds a shared ontology, a legal and cultural framework, and a growing case study library to help researchers, practitioners and policymakers turn this vague land into an asset.
OBSERVISTA brings together researchers, local authorities and policymakers from 29 countries in a COST Action network dedicated to the urban spaces cities have overlooked — post-industrial land, vacant lots and undefined planning gaps. Across 4 working groups, the network is building a shared ontology, a common legal and cultural framework, and a growing case study library.
